Going to the dentist is pretty low on the list of enjoyable things to do. Getting braces is even lower. The mere thought of doing so makes many people shutter with thoughts of agony, but do braces really hurt? Getting braces put on can take a bit of time, but it should not be a period during which you experience pain. You will be sore afterwards for a bit, but that should be it. At most, a couple of aspirin should take care of the problem. Braces are designed to move your teeth slowly. After you have them put on, a sensation of pressure will definitely be felt. It will go away slowly, but do not confuse the sensation with pain. Much to the dismay of many school kids around the country, it is perfect fine to return to daily activities (including schools) the day after braces have been secured. Chewing may be a bit awkward at first, but most kids get used to the strange feeling within days. In fact, a new trend amongst many teenagers has a lot to do with braces. It turns out that having a mouth full of shiny metal is something to gloat about. This is why the latest teen trend happens to be adding "fake braces" to one's mouth. So, if you need the real kind there is nothing to worry about. One can understand why people fear braces. The first versions looked like torture devices and felt like them as well. Today, they are small, transparent and comfortable. Keeping them clean is really the only issue you need to care about. Your new braces really should be low maintenance. Avoid the foods your dentist mentions. Keep an emergency repair kit in case you have a problem and you should have no problems with your orthodontics. The days of living in terror prior to your appointment to get braces put on are over. The world of orthodontics has changed for the better. You can expect some minor discomfort, but only for a very short time.
