All dogs are stars - but you can prove your Havanese is with clear, interesting Havanese pictures. You needn't take your Havanese to a professional photographer in order to get great photos. If you have patience, film and a 35 mm camera (digital or traditional), you and your Havanese are ready to rock. Taking great Havanese pictures is just like teaching your dog a simple command like lay down or stay - patience, treats and a sense of humor. Since your Havanese is a rare breed, that unfortunately makes him or her a target for dog thieves. And, being mischievous, Havanese can suddenly decide their yard isn't big enough and decide to take a stroll around town. One of the best ways to assure that your lost Havanese comes back to you (besides a collar and microchipping) is to always have current pictures on had, taken every six months at least. So protect your pet, get great photos to show off and have fun with your dog in taking Havanese pictures. If your dog knows "stay", this is a great time to reinforce that command. You'll need a zoom lens in order to get clear, focused head-only shots. But even disposable 35mm cameras are great for getting good full-body shots of your furry supermodel. You can also choose the background better with indoor shots and make sure there isn't a lot of clutter to distract a viewer from your Havanese. Putting up a cloth or sheet background over a chair or stretched out on a wall can transform a dull picture into a snazzy Havanese picture. Props, costumes and funny hats are not needed to take great Havanese pictures. Of course, some Havanese love to dress up - it gets them more attention! But in order to show the true beauty of your dog, just have the dog be a dog. With practice, you can focus on just head shots or entire body shots. If your dog ever becomes lost, these body shots will be what you want on the posters. If you don't have a helper to keep a squirmy puppy still, then you need to trick the pup into staying still enough for you. You just might have to do a lot of quick moving about to fit the pup's face into your frame. Get a small amount of food in a shallow, heavy bowl (pups like to push!) to keep the pup still for at least half a minute for a clear shot. You can always but a blanket or towel over a chair to make a good background color. Most importantly, have fun!
