A high school diploma is a certificate awarded to a student for the completion of the secondary level of education or high school. A high school diploma is awarded by the educational institution during the graduation rites. Though details in appearances may differ, schools usually have the same basic design for each diploma. The name of the educational institution is alway seen in the diploma. Other schools include their logos, some next to the school name or watermarked on the background. All these are important in determining where the student graduated from and in giving the diploma the look of an original one. The recipient's name is of course included, next to the words: "Has completed the course of study, prescribed by the Board of Education for the High school and is therefore entitled to this Diploma." The date, together with signatures from the principal and school president are all included as proof of the validity of the document. The graduate receiving his or her diploma is a popular symbol of maturity. This means that this student has completed his or her basic education and is ready to face adulthood. This is usually done when a student walks onto the stage after having his or her name called out and the diploma is finally awarded to the student. A lot of countries and companies require people to get a high school degree as a prerequisite for hiring. Countries such as the United States and Canada considers a high school diploma as the basic requirement before employment, especially in higher paying jobs.
