Mobile phone ringtones have become a large industry for cell phone providers. Ringtones alone account for a vast majority of the optional profits companies receive, simply because they are so popular with consumers. But getting one's hand on free ringtones will keep their bank accounts running high, and their mobile phones just as jamming. Free ringtones will be available solely at the discretion of the mobile provider's rules. Some companies don't allow third party add-ons such as ringtones. In the United States, the U.S. Cellular brand of services is a perfect example of this fact. If one's provider doesn't allow for third party programs and content, one is likely going to have to pay for their ringtones no matter what they do. Technologies that have allowed computers and devices to communciate without wires is also helping mobile phone users get their ringtones and content for no fee. Even those under rule of restriction of third party content can hook up to other devices via wireless technologies, and trasnfer content for absolutely no cost. USB connections and infrared connections may also help the situation. Before one can transfer any ringtone to a friend or family member, they must first obtain the ringtone. Internet websites can help one's situation in this case, as they are able to offer free ringtones under special laws. Some websites situated in certain countries are also devoid of copyright laws- although it is still possible that the one downloading the ringtone may get in trouble for copyright infringement if caught. Some computer programs will allow free cell phone ringtones to be obtained as well. In this instance the consumer will need to have the music they want as a ringtone already in their library. By sectioning off a certain part of the song and converting it to the required format, one can obtain a ringtone from their own library for absolutely no cost. With a little searching, such programs can be found for free as well. Be warned, however, that many "free ringtones" are actually part of a payment plan. Commercials that advertise free ringtones will have footnotes that claim that a plan will need to be purchased for the free ringtone gift. This is a dastardly way of tricking consumers into money, but in the defense of such means of selling ringtones, the consumer should have paid their attention to the "fine print." Final Thoughts Getting free ringtones for your cell phone isn't hard if you know what you're doing- but it can indeed be time consuming to get what one wants. Friends don't always have a certain song, and Internet websites may not always have a special spot of the song one enjoys. In such times, it's often best to make a new ringtone from scratch or give in to settling for less.
