It's Easy Taking Havanese Pictures

By: Fiona Kelly

Living with a Havanese is great fun, but it can get routine. Walk, pet, feed, scratch - walk, pet, feed, scratch - it can get a little monotonous. Both you and your Havanese sometimes want to break out of the routine and interact in fun ways. Havanese love being the center of attention (as you've probably noticed). What better way of making your dog the star by taking Havanese pictures.

It's not the end of the world if you can't get the perfect shot the first time. Even professionals can't do that! Be ready to take many shots in order to get the picture that just stands heads and shoulders above the rest.

One of the best ways to assure that your lost Havanese comes back to you (besides a collar and microchipping) is to always have current pictures on had, taken every six months at least. So protect your pet, get great photos to show off and have fun with your dog in taking Havanese pictures.

If your dog knows "stay", this is a great time to reinforce that command. You'll need a zoom lens in order to get clear, focused head-only shots. But even disposable 35mm cameras are great for getting good full-body shots of your furry supermodel.

You can also choose the background better with indoor shots and make sure there isn't a lot of clutter to distract a viewer from your Havanese. Putting up a cloth or sheet background over a chair or stretched out on a wall can transform a dull picture into a snazzy Havanese picture.

Have your Havanese quietly sit or stand in front of the backdrop, look at you and then snap away. Be sure to reward with lots of vocal praise and a special toy or treat after the session is over.

You will be better off getting great Havanese pictures inside before venturing to outdoor shots. There will be less distractions for your model inside and you can have more control over the background, any props you need, or if you wish to put your dog up on a chair or some perch to be more on eye-level with you.

As your dog gets used to these sessions, you can have some fun with them. As long as you make it fun for the dog with praise, treats and petting, they will enjoy posing for you. You can dress them up, put them with funny props and just let your imagination go. This is also a great way to reinforce basic obedience training. And your Havanese pictures will be proof that you live with a canine superstar.
