A program that is implemented and observed in organizations such as schools, government services, offices and the military is most likely to be an award program. An award program is one that basically seeks to give recognition to certain people who go beyond just performing their duties, and perform their tasks in a manner beyond expectation. Because of these people, the organization or company they belong to are also given honor and success and this leads to the giving of awards. An award program is probably one of the oldest, most traditional and most common kind of reward system that is done all around the world when it comes to recognizing outstanding achievements and excellence. Individuals are exposed to award programs as early as their first year in formal education, as schools honor outstanding students who showed the highest aptitude in a subject or field of study. Awards are also given to those who excelled in extracurricular activities that gave the school honor, such as victories in sports or athletics meets, journalism, theatre, or subject specific competitions like math, English and science contests. Even with the educational phase over, awards still surround a person's life. Individuals can still be qualified and win an award in his or her place of employment or within private groups and government agencies that they are a part of. The same holds true for individuals who join the army. Award programs provide numerous categories for the awards they hand out to employees. Some, like awards for milestones in service tenure, will take a long time and require dedication and loyalty. Still, there are awards that do not take very long to accomplish, including annual awards for performance-based recognition. There are numerous manufacturing companies all around the world, some of them present even on the information highway, that specialize in the production of different employee awards. Awards given during awarding ceremonies vary, from the very affordable lapel pins and tie-tacks to the more expensive rings and high-end watches.
