The Man Cave – described as a room or space for men (with no female influence) that is used for sanctuary from housework and daily distractions.
For the most part, this is usually a converted room in the house (such as that extra bedroom you never use). But why not use that garden shed out back for your sanctuary? So what if you have to build a whole other shed for the odds and ends that won’t fit in your main shed anymore, but I think you’ll find its well worth the effort.
For our purposes here, we will create an atmosphere for solitude and relaxation. This will work best because sheds are usually pretty small and there isn’t a whole lot of room for, say, a pool table. If your shed isn’t wired for electricity, I recommend getting a licensed electrician to do so.
Putting your plan down on paper will help you visualize the space. Try to draw it all to scale. Start off with placing your flat screen TV in a spot where it won’t have sunlight reflecting directly off of it. Now place the biggest item that will take up room (your chair) accordingly. Recliners are a personal favorite of mine but they do take up more space.
Once you have the necessities planned out, start with a clean slate and remove online drugs everything from the shed. It is still a shed after all, so shelves and even a fold up work bench are perfectly acceptable. Shelving between studs work great for a your smaller items and it saves on a lot of space since the shelves don’t stick out.
Putting down an area rug, for me, is a MUST. You might even actually spend time in your shed if it has a more comfortable finished look to it, and the rug will help dampen sounds. Measure the floor (which you should have already done for your planning schematic) and try to find a rug that comes close to these measurement. This helps give the room a carpeted look.
Since your shed should now be wired, don’t forget the lighting. If you hang lights from the ceiling joists, this will help keep the floor clear. I like to have as few things on the floor as possible.
